data-mining

i recently read this article about how target predicted a pregnancy based on their customer's data and purchasing patterns. it's both disturbing but not surprising that retailers are using their resources, data and analysis to give a customer more "personal" attention. the article is worth a read. so the next time i get a set of coupons for chocolates, feminine hygiene products and midol, i should not be creeped out. instead i should be grateful that stores are trying to get me "personal" attention.
 there is always someone watching....
